Pendimethalin is an orange-yellow crystalline solid; Melting point, 54~58º C; Vapour pressure, 40Pa(25º C). Solubility in water, ∨ 0.5mg/l, readily soluble in chlorinated hydrocarbons and aromatic hydrocarbons. Stable to acids and alkalis. Active ingredient in technical, 90.0%.

Toxicity:
Acute oral LD50 technical for rats, 1250mg/kg. Acute dermal LD50 for mice, 1620mg/kg. No carcinogenic, mutagenic and teratogenic effects at experimental dosage. High toxic to fish and aquatic organisms. Low toxic to bees and birds, oral LD50 for bees, 59.0mg/kg, acute oral LD50 for wigeon 10g/kg· D. Acute oral LD50 of 33% EC for rats, 2.9g/kg(male) and 2.7g/kg(female), acute dermal for male rabbits 6.8g/kg, acute inhale for rats ∧ 475mg/m3.

Mode of action:
Pendimethalin, a dinitraniline herbicide, inhibits plant cell division and cell elongationmainly. Pendimethalin is absorbed in limited amounts by monocotyledonous plants and in moderate amounts by small dicotyledonous plants. No effect on seed germination. It acts after adsorbed by plumelet, stem and roots.
