It is not persistent in soil but may persist in water under some conditions. Carbofuran has a high mammalian toxicity and a low potential for bioaccumulation. It is an endocrine disruptor and a probable reproduction/development intoxicant. It is highly toxic to birds and honeybees whilst having a moderate to high toxicity to most aquatic organisms. It is moderately toxic to earthworms.
